Obituary

HERKIMER-Frank Ensign Miles, age 87, of North Prospect Street, passed away on Saturday November 10, 2001 in Valley Health Services Inc. He was born on June 15, 1914 in Adams Center, NY son of the late Willis and Adelaide Boomer Miles. Frank and his family moved to Remsen when he was at an early age. He father was a Telegrapher for the New York Central Railroad. Frank was a graduate of Remsen High School and went on to graduate from Schenectady Technical Institute. In 1941 he married Lois Davis, they had a daughter Jean Louise Miles. Lois Davis Miles died in 1944. Jean Louise passed away from Multiple Sclerosis in 1992. In 1947he married Louise Palmer a loving and devoted union of fifty-four years. They had one son Frank Palmer Miles. Frank was a service manager for the Smith Corona Company in Utica, retiring in 1972. Since his retirement he has resided in Florida during the winter months. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, a fifty year plus member of Herkimer Lodge # 423 F. & A. M.. His other memberships in Masonic bodies included the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple Shrine, Tampa, FL, the Lakeland Florida Shrine Club. Frank clowned as "Bashful" for the Shrine Children's Hospitals. Lakeland, FL is the winter home of the Detroit Tigers Baseball Team; he along with other Shriners worked the concession stand to raise money for the hospitals. He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle man and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Surviving are his wife and best friend of fifty-four years Louise, a son and his wife; Frank Palmer and Doris Baum Miles of Seattle, WA, one brother and his wife; Wesley Llewellyn and his wife Dorothy Miles, a grandson Alexander Baum Miles, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, his first wife Lois and their daughter Jean Louise he was preceded in death by a sister Adelaide Lennox. A service in memory of both Frank and his daughter Jean Louise will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend William Otis pastor of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the excellent care and support given to both Frank and Louise at Valley Health Services. This includes Medical Staff, Nursing Staff, Dietary and Housekeeping. Their gratefulness can never be adequately expressed. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospitals. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
