RICHFIELD SPRINGS- Franklyn David Springer, 88, formerlyof Church Street, died on Sunday morning, July 23, 2000 in the home of Mr. andMrs. Everett Bass, Pine Grove Road, where he has resided for the past year andhalf.He was born on September 4, 1911 in the Town of Warren, son of the late DavidRichard and Luella Mumford Springer. A lifelong area resident he was educated inRichfield Springs and a graduate of Syracuse University in 1932 with a degree inBusiness Administration. An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, he servedour country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On may 29, 1939 hemarried Sylvia L. Iver in the Presbyterian Church, Richfield Springs, a lovingand devoted union of 59 years until her passing on March 1, 1999. Franklyn alongwith his brothers were co-owners of Springer, Inc. located in Richfield Springs.He retired from the business in 1980. Upon his retirement he and his wife hadresided in Leesburg, Florida where he was a member of the Morrison MethodistChurch.
He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, pastpresident of the Richfield Springs Central School Board, a member of RichfieldSprings Lodge No. 482 F.&A.M., a member and past president of the NationalFarm and Power Equipment Dealers Association, the Richfield Springs Rotary Cluband the Ziyara Shrine of Utica.
Surviving are his son David J. Springer and his wife Carol of Ilion; onegrandson, David J. Springer, Jr. of Richfield Springs; a stepson, David White ofIlion; a sister-in-law Bernice Springer of Richfield Springs, a niece LodenaSnyder and a nephew William Springer.
Funeral services will be Wednesday 10:00am in the Church of Christ Uniting,with the Reverend William Harkins, pastor, officiating. Interment willtake place on Monday, July 31 at 11:00am in Highland Rural Cemetery,Jordanville.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends Tuesday eveningfrom 6-8pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, RichfieldSprings.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ Uniting memorial fund.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
