CHERRY VALLEY-Fred E. Covey Sr. age 50, of Honey Hill Road passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning January 10, 2003 in his home. He was born on October 30, 1952 in Herkimer son of Leona Madison Covey and the late James Albert Covey. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Mohawk. For a short a time he worked for the Mohawk Cemetery Association before he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in March of 1974. On August 8, 1990 he married Dawn Duncan in Ilion. They have resided in Cherry Valley since 1994. In Freds leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his ten grandchildren. Surviving besides his beloved wife Dawn are his mother; Leona Covey of Ilion, three sons; Fred E. Covey Jr., Wallace and his wife Lisa Covey all of Ilion, Joshua Covey of Norway, one daughter Carol and her husband Jeff Dennis of Schuyler, three step-daughters; Tonya Steacy of Cherry Valley, Sheila Steacy of Herkimer, Jayme Steacy of Frankfort, one brother; James A. Covey Jr. of Utica, two sisters and their husbands; Carol and Thomas Jowett of Bridgewater, Katherine and Robert Apel of Utica, ten grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his good companion and father-in-law who he loved very much Frank Duncan Sr. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 12:00 noon in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer-Little Falls will officiate. Mr. Covey will be laid to rest in Mohawk Cemetery later this spring. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.
