HERKIMER – Freda M. Eaker, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 18, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
She was born on May 27, 1932 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Herman and Golda (Harlow) Congdon. Freda was raised and educated in Little Falls. On August 5, 1950, she married Robert Charles Eaker. They shared a loving and devoted union of 52 years until his passing on November 24, 2002.
For many years she worked at the Friendship Dairy Cheese Factory in Friendship NY. They lived in Addison, NY for seven years where she worked as a cafeteria monitor in the school system. Freda and Bob had moved to McDonough prior to returning to the area in 1990. While living in McDonough she taught ceramics and she continued teaching ceramics while living here.
Freda enjoyed staying busy. If Bob had a building project going on she was right by his side lending a helping hand. They truly enjoyed their life together.
She was active in the community, serving as treasurer for the Oppenheim Seniors, and a member of AARP. As a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer/Little Falls, she was always available to help on church dinners and headed the Rummage Sales for many years. Freda will be remembered as a helpful and caring person. Her love will live on in the hearts of many.
Surviving are a son and his wife Matthew and Vera Eaker of Addison, two granddaughters, Jennifer Eaker of Astoria, Stacy Eaker of Pittsford, 5 sisters, Florence Benson of Little Falls, Janet Travis and Joan Keeler both of Dolgeville, Geraldine Goldstein of Herkimer, Laura Buhaj and her husband Mike of Little Falls, sister-in-law Pat Congdon of Mohawk, brother-in-law, Buster Klock of East Herkimer, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Robert she was presided in death by an infant son, Richard Thomas in 1952, twobrothers, Herman and David Congdon, three sisters, Grace Wells and her husband Arnold, Catherine Klock, and Pearl Brownell, brothers-in-law, Heman Benson, Wayne Keeler, and Gerald Goldstein, sister-in-law Alyce Congdon.
Calling hours will be at Fenner Funeral Home Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer, on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held in funeral home on Thursday May 26th at 11:00 am with The Reverend Joelle Faulks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment will follow in Middleville cemetery.
