LITTLE FALLS-Frederick Arthur Brown age 77 of North Creek Road passed away on Thursday evening February 9, 2006 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on October 1, 1928 in East Herkimer, son of the late Frederick and Mildred Lowell Brown. A lifelong area resident he raised on the family farm and was educated in Herkimer Public Schools. On January 3, 1946 he enlisted in the US Army where he received the American Theatre Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Meritorious Award. He was honorably discharged in July of 1947. On August 9, 1948 he once again answered the call of his country by reenlisting in the US Army. He proudly served in the Korean War where he received the Occupation Medal Japan, the Korean Service Medal with three stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. On May 1, 1952 he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class. On June 25, 2000 he was honored with a letter of appreciation from Kim Dae-Jung, President of the Republic of Korea thanking him for his conviction, courage, spirit of sacrifice and selfless service and extending his good wishes for Freds health and happiness.
On March 16, 1956 he was united in marriage the former Mary Elizabeth Watson in the First United Methodist Parsonage, Herkimer. The Reverend Fred Cotnam officiated. Mr. Brown and his wife have resided in Little Falls since 1978, coming from Herkimer.
For 17 years Mr. Brown worked in the metal forging department of Union Fork and Hoe in Frankfort, retiring 1979.
In his leisure time he enjoyed watching sporting events. He followed basketball, bowling and football. He was an avid fan of Herkimer High School Football and was a familiar face at all the home games for many years.
Death has come to a friend as it comes eventually to all human beings. But nothing can detract from the joy that we shared in knowing him. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his beloved wife of forty-nine years Mary, two brothers, Thomas Brown and his wife Cindy of Little Falls, James Brown of Herkimer, one sister, Barbara Litten and her husband Robert of Whitesboro, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will take place on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating. Interment with military honors will be later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday two hours prior to the funeral service (5:00 to 7:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
