EAST SPRINGFIELD-Frederick Arnold Porath age 76 passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. He was born on May 31, 1940 in Cherry Valley, son of the late Fred W. and Bernice Cole Porath. A lifelong East Springfield resident, he was a graduate of Springfield Central High School with the class of 1958. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he proudly served as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was honorably discharged on March 26, 1962 attaining the rank of Corporal. For thirty one years he worked as a Truck Driver and Maintance man for the town of Springfield and the county of Otsego. He retired in 1998. Fred had a strong belief in God and was of the Methodist faith. For many years he was a member of the Richfield Springs Vets Club. Fred will always be remembered as an honest and down to earth man. Any conversation with him was direct and to the point but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be sadly missed.
Surviving is his loving companion Janet Sikkema and his many good friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dawn Casler, Lorraine A. Robage, Florence Hull and Shirley A. Thompson and one brother, Glenn Ostrandrer.
A graveside funeral service with military honors provided by the US Marine Corps. And the Richfield Springs Vets Club will be held on Saturday May 20th at 11:00 am in Springfield Center Cemetery. The Reverend Alan Miller will officiate. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
