MOHAWK - Fredrick Charles Bond age 78 of Sarafin Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning January 13, 2013 in his home.He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on January 31, 1934 in Lodi, son of the late Miles J. and Muriel Brown Bond. A lifelong area resident he was educated in New Hartford and Mohawk Central Schools. On September 11, 1958 he entered the US Army and was stationed at Fort Lee Virginia. During that time he received an associates degree in Vocational-Agriculture.He was honorably discharged on September 9, 1960 attaining the rank of Specialist First Class.
On April 20, 1959 he was united in marriage with the former Marguerite F. Pratt in Lakeview, CT. They have made their home in Mohawk for the past forty-six years.
Mr. Bond was first employed by the Library Bureau in Herkimer and later was a deliveryman for Herkimer Petroleum Products.In 1981 he started his own automobile repair shop in Mohawk called Freds Garage. He operated this business successfully for fifteen years until his retirement in 1995.
Fred had a strong love for the out of doors, in his leisure time he enjoyed hunting and would sometimes help neighboring farmers keep those pesky woodchucks at bay. Mr. Bond will always be remembered as a down to earth man with a good sense of humor. Any conversation with was usually straight and to the point but you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friend and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving him are his devoted wife of fifty-four years Marguerite, one son, Fredrick Bond and wife Kathy of Yorktown Heights, three daughters and their husbands, Tracey and Calvin McNair of Ilion, Donna and Robert Soper of Park City, KY, Denise and Jay Schuurman of Paines Hollow,one brother Tracy Bond and his wife Sally of Denver, NC, two sisters, Beverly Billings and her companion John of Dolgeville, Barbara Billings and her husband Ted of Little Falls, a half-brother, Denton Bennet and wife Debbie of Indian Trail, NC, four half-sisters, Sheila Bennet of Ilion, Carol Lee Harris, Cyndi Bond, Sandi Smith, two sisters-in-law, Linde Pratt of Mohawk, Myrta and her husband Douglas Sweet of Herkimer, two special son-in-laws, Mike LaVenture of Chadwicks and Fred Williams of Palentine, nine grandchildren, Julie, Eisele and Adrienne Williams, Michelle and Christine Bond, Jacob, Noah, Aaron, and Rebekah Schuurman, three great- grandchildren, Eja, Dion and Lela, several nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Casandra Williams two half-brothers, James Bennet and John Bond.
A memorial service for Mr. Bond will be held in the Richfield Springs Bible Church followed by a committal in Mohawk Cemetery at a future time to be announced.
