Obituary

ILION - Gary W. Dennison, age 58, of Colonial Circle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 28, 2012, at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He had the comfort of knowing his family was at his side. He was born on August 1, 1954, in Herkimer a son of the late George and Esther Neale Dennison. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Mt. Markham High School. Upon graduation he enlisted with the US Navy serving three years and was honorable discharged on April 5, 1977. For many years he worked as a cook at various restaurants including Howard Johnson in Herkimer and the Mohawk Station before his retirement in the early 1990s. Gary was a quiet man who enjoyed the simple things in life. His cat Precious and painting with water colors were some of his most enjoyable moments. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his feline companion, Precious, are two sisters. Elaine Sam Bouck and her husband Jud of Ilion, Eleanor Elly Wellington of Herkimer and her companion Steve Robellard , four brothers, Terry Dennison of Ilion, Richard Dennison Sr. of Cedar Grove, IN, James Dennison of Herkimer, George Sonny Dennison of Atkins, VA and aunt Ruth Gott of Edmeston, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home on Friday evening to receive relatives and friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy made be made with memorial donation to Feed the Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 3101-0036. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
