HERKIMER - Gary Edward LaBarge, age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Homelife at Folts, in Herkimer. The only child of Edward and Reta (Bassett) LaBarge he was born on June 19, 1940, in Plattsburgh. On October 8, 1963 he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged on October 7, 1965 and with the Reserve Army until 1969. On May 22, 1976 he was united in marriage with the former Linda Brisson in St. Peters Church, Utica. They shared a loving and devoted marriage of thirty-three years until her passing on September 12, 2009. For many years Gary worked for B.O.C.E.S. in Madison County. His hobby was trains and watching all types of movies. He also enjoyed tinkering with old film reels. He was a sincere, caring man with a comedic sense of humor. His fun loving spirit extending to young and old alike, his childrens friends thought of him as an understanding man and considered him their friend and just one of the gang. He will be missed by his many friends, family and especially his cherished granddaughter Ginny Marie, who was the love of his life. Surviving are two daughters Ashleigh and her husband KentFurry II, Destiny LaBarge, and granddaughter, Ginny Marie Furry all of Herkimer. Beside his parents, and wife Linda, he was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Kimberly Holtz. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 19th from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will be at a later date.
