RICHFIELD SPRINGS - George Hugick Jr., 64, of South Street, entered into eternal rest on Thursday evening, Oct. 2, 2003, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.
He was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Herkimer, son of the late George and Mary Bukatko Hugick. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, he graduated from Richfield Springs High School with the "Class of 1956." For 30 years he worked as a carpenter with Local Union #120, in Utica, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, where he taught Sunday school. A community-minded person, George coached both Richfield Springs Little League and Pop Warner Football. He also belonged to Hugick, Purcell and Shepard American Legion Post 616, Richfield Springs. He had a strong love for the outdoors and especially lakes. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his leisure time he was devoted New York Yankee baseball fan and New York Giants football fan. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are two sons, Mark G. Hugick and Kevin C. Hugick and his wife Maureen, all of Jordanville; a daughter Heidi and her husband Patrick Johnson of Richfield Springs; two brothers, Theodore Hugick of Blossvale, and Bernard and his wife Nancy Hugick of Jordanville; a brother-in-law Walter S. Yaworski of Jordanville; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Brianna and Nathaniel Johnson, and Sarah and Brett Hugick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, a brother Edwin Hugick and a sister, Frances Yaworski preceded him in death. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, will officiate. Following the service, Mr. Hugick will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice
