JORDANVILLE - George P. Misencik Sr., 82, of Hicks Road, Mohawk, passed away on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
He was born March 5, 1920, in Maynard, Ohio, son of the late John and Mary Keba Misencik. His youth was spent in Ohio, where he graduated from Saint Clairsville High School. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant. After the war, he joined his parents and brother, Walter, on the family dairy farm. On Feb. 17, 1946, he married Martha Halkowich in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. He had a strong belief in God and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs. For 35 years, he was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25, Mohawk. George was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Martha; a daughter, Joyce Owsinski of Middle Village, Queens; three sons and their wives, George Jr. and Alice Misencik of Hartwick, David and Dorenda Misencik of Phoenix, Ariz., and John and Linda Misencik of Mohawk; 11 grandchildren, Ben, Michael and his wife Lai Owsinski, Ryan and his wife Becky Misencik, Raymie, Randy, Nicole, John "J.J." and Josh Misencik, Todd, Brad and Ethan; one brother, Richard Misencik of Middlesex, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter L. Misencik, and his son-in-law, Walter Owsinski.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. The Rev. Joseph Benintende will officiate. There are no calling hours. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Cedarville Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church.
