RICHFIELD SPRINGS - George F. Wirsch age 65 of Center Street passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 11, 2005 in his home. He was born on April 24, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, son of the late George C. and Laura Markowski Wirsch. George was raised in Poughkeepsie and was a graduate of Saint Josephs High School.On August 20, 1983 he married the former Helen Ann King in Saint Patricks Church, Newburgh. A loving and devoted union of nineteen years Mrs. Wirsch preceded him in death on August 31, 2002. For more than twenty years Mr. Wirsch worked as a custodian for the Mid-Hudson Civic Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 2001. In 1986 George and his wife moved to Richfield Springs. Mr. Wirsch had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life.He was a member of Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs and was a member of the Florentine Council # 304 Knights of Columbus in Poughkeepsie. A good share of Georges retirement time was spent following sports, especially football.Any conversation with him about sports, you instantly knew you were talking to an avid fan of that sport. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Surviving are his daughter, Robin Travis of Richfield Springs, two sons and their wives, Todd and Amanda Travis of Richfield Springs, Clancy and Shannon Travis of Schuyler Lake, one sister, Sandra Straley and her husband Richard of Poughkeepsie, six grandchildren Robin Cronin of Richfield Springs, Brianna and Maggie Travis of Schuyler Lake, Jennifer Rose, Autumn and Joshua Travis all of Richfield Springs, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 am in Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy will officiate. Interment will follow in Saint Josephs Cemetery.The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Friday morning from 9:00 until 10:30 am.Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
