Obituary

MOHAWK-Gerald McGraw, age 75, of Green Street, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon November 5, 2002 in his home. He was born on May 17, 1927 in Ilion, son of the late Arthur and Laura Voorhees McGraw. A lifelong resident he was educated in Annunciation School, Ilion and Mohawk High School. An honorably discharged US Army veteran he served in France and Germany both during and after World War II. On June 17, 1950 he married Ruth Holtz in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. Mr. McGraw had worked as Assistant Manager of the Texaco Gas Station at Schuyler on the New York State Thruway and in later years as a Machine Setter for the Remington Arms Company. He retired from Remington Arms in 1990 after fifteen years of dedicated service. In his leisure time he loved bowling and golf. He was a member of the Wednesday night Bowling League and at one time had won the New York State Bowling Tournament Championship held in the southern tier of New York. An avid golfer he was a member of the Remington Golf League and Dotys Golf League in Ilion. He was a member of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25, Mohawk. Gerry was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-two years Ruth, one daughter Gail and her husband William Krobetzky of Albany, a son Gary McGraw and his companion Pauline Ganzmann of Lakeside, AZ; two brothers, Daniel Ferguson and his companion Sue Matteson of Mohawk, Harry and his wife Darlene Ferguson of Ilion; four sisters, Shirley and her husband Frank Kraszewzki of Little Falls, Barbara and her husband Russell Garrison of Palentine Bridge, Flora Roberts of Ilion, Laura Piper of Ilion; five grandchildren, Shawn McGraw of Mohawk, Alyson McGraw Pagano of Little Falls, Anthony McGraw of Mohawk, Christopher and his wife Angela Hawkins of Rensselaer, Carolyn Hawkins of Albany; three great grandchildren; Tyler and Skylar Hawkins and Jared Hawkins Young all of Albany. Besides his parents Arthur McGraw and Laura McGraw Ferguson he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Richard and Raymond McGraw and one sister Pauline McGraw. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend David Kirkpatrick will officiate. Mr. McGraw will then be laid to rest with military honors in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross or the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post # 25 Mohawk are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:00 PM for services.
