Mr. Gerald F. Wellington, 90, of Ilion, NY passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital, Utica. Gerald was born in Herkimer, on December 14, 1934, the son of the late John and Mary (Nabinger) Wellington.  He was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School.  After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the US Army until his honorable discharge in July of 1965.  He was united in marriage to Virginia Piper; she predeceased him in 1994.  He later married Bernadette Wellington until her passing.  Gerald was employed by Remington Arms, Ilion working on the 700-rifle line until his retirement.  Gerald was a proud member of both Herkimer American Legion Post # 38 and Mohawk American Legion Post #25. Gerald is survived by his son Francis "Fran" Wellington and his wife Donna, Mohawk, NY, grandchildren Scott Wellington, Lisa (Christopher) Grant, Shannon DeForrest, Rory DeForrest and his companion Jennifer Patten, Virginia DeForrest, Michael Sudakow, Joshua (Katie) Wellington, Jason (Annie) Wellington, several great grandchildren, several step children and grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his stepchildren Donna, Tom, Ginger and Sharon, his grandson Ronald Simpkins, his siblings Robert, John, Glenn, Phillip, Ronald Wellington, Rita Fudjack, Betty Jane Scanlon and Beatrice Wellington. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Gerald's graveside service on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11AM, Oak Hill Cemetery, West German Street, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his wife Virginia.
