HERKIMER - Geraldine A. Semit, age 98 passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023, in FoltsBrook Center,Herkimer. She was born on February 3, 1924, in McKeever, a daughter of the late John L. and Maude (Farmer) Geraghty. At a young age the family moved to Herkimer where she graduated from Herkimer High School. She furthered her education in Utica earning her certification as an X-Ray Technician. On June 26, 1948 she married Herbert F. Semit in St Francis deSales Parish, Herkimer. They shared a devoted union of sixty-eight years until his passing on May 10, 2016. For over thirty-five years she worked at Herkimer Hospital retiring in 1982 as a Lab Technician. Geraldine enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting and spending time in her garden. She was a gentle, quiet, caring person who enjoyed being with people. Her smile always put you at ease. She will be missed by those who loved her. Surviving her are two sons, Cary Semit and his wife Jacqueline of Herkimer, David Semit of Little Falls, a daughter Linda Tarbox of Gloversville and her husband Ross of Ephratah, daughter in-law, Donna Semit of Remsen, eight grandchildren, Ross, {Laura}, Nick,{BobbyJo}, Shannon {Mike}, Rhiannon {Richard}, Rebecca{David}, Karen {Mark}, Brenda and Sarah, several great-grandchildren, a special niece Joyce McCarthy and special friend Beth Haggerty, along with several nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Herbert, she was predeceased by two sons, Mark and William Semit and her siblings, John Garaghty, Eileen, Palmer and Elaine "Peggy" Leonard. Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family. A graveside service in Oak Hill cemetery will take in the spring at a time to be announced.
