RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Gertrude E. Bak peacefully left this life to join the Lord in everlasting rest on Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 2010.
She was born in Uticaon April 30, 1921 and resided in Central New Yorkall of her life. She attended Whitesboro High School.
Gertrude was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #25 in Mohawk and a past member of the Altar Rosary Societies of both St. Josephs Church in Richfield Springs and Sacred Heart Churchin Utica.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, who loved her dearly, whom she married on March 4, 1961 and her eleven children and their families:Mary Ellen Ryan of Syracuse, Elizabeth (Betty) (Thomas) Circelli of Port Orange, FL, Barbara (Dennis) Burton of Clifton Park, Frances (Lucas) Nolles of Latham, Suzanne (Daniel) Garbera of Richfield Springs, Sr. M. Richard of Jesus (Dorothy), O. Carm of Germantown, Louis (Deborah) Ryan of DeWitt, MI, Edward (Heidi) Bak of Franklinville, N J, Carol (Rick) Starr of Richfield Springs, Rose (Joseph) DeRosa of Richfield Springs, Mary Heinz of Binghamton and her son-in-law Paul Fleming of Syracuse. She was cherished grandmother of fifty-six and adored great-grandmother of twenty-four.
She will be missed by her goddaughter Elaine Gaffney of Whitesboro whom she held dear to her heart as well as several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Gladys Theobald of Whitesboro, brother-in-law Louis Ryan of Columbus, OH and Joseph Bak of New York Mills, and sister-in-law M. Agnes Millson of Albany and Jenny Czjakowski of New York Mills.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Harry Millson, her first husband Richard Ryan, daughter Carol Flemming, son-in-law, John Porter as well as by her brothers Harry and George Millson, sister Anna Clark, brothers-in-law Leo Clark, Nelson Theobald, Robert Ryan and Peter Roberts, sisters-in-law Lucy Millson and Helen Roberts.
Gertrude devoted her life to her children and family and her special gift of pure love will be held close to the hearts of all her family and her kindnesses remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing her,
Funeral service from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James will be on Monday at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
