Obituary

HERKIMER - Gertrude (Trudy) Johanna Erb, 79, of MeadowLane died on Tuesday evening Aug. 8, 2000 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on May21, 1921 in Mechtal Beuthen, Germany, daughter of the late Paul and Johanna PiotekKowollik. Gertrude was raised and educated in Germany. On Dec. 27, 1951 she married GeorgeConrad Erb in Bad Nauheim, Germany. Because of her husband's military career and work forthe United States government they had lived in various cities and countries throughout theworld. A Herkimer resident in the 1970s, she had worked for Montgomery Ward, retiring in1979. They had permanently resided in Herkimer since 1993. She was a member of St. FrancisdeSales Church, Herkimer, the AARP Local 1410 and the National AARP. Surviving besides her husband of 48 years, George, are threesons; Herbert G. Erb of Inkster, Mich., Martin O. and his wife Theresa Erb of Garland,Texas, Bernhard J. and his wife Laura Erb of Bloomingburg, N.Y., two daughters; UlrikeJ.P. Hendrickson of Xenia, Ohio, Rosemary S. Erb of Portland, Maine, eight grandchildren,one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brotherand sister, both in Germany. Funeral will be from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St.,Herkimer, Saturday at 12:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St.Francis deSales Church, Herkimer, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Nabozny, pastor,officiating. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives andfriends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the AmericanDiabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at thefuneral home.
