Obituary

EAST HERKIMER-Gertrude Richardson age 85 of Shells Bush Road entered into eternal rest on Sunday afternoon August 28, 2005 in Saint Lukes Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on April 3, 1920 in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Frank and Harriett Weaver Combs. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On June 22, 1938 she was united in marriage with Alvin C. Richardson in the Herkimer Reformed Parsonage. A loving and devoted union of forty-seven years he preceded her in death on April 10, 1986. Along with being a housewife and mother she and her husband owned and operated the Richardson Dairy Farm on Shells Bush Road. Mrs. Richardson retired from dairy farming in 1986. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. To her family she was the warmth and strength that kept them together. She was a caring mother who enjoyed gardening to the fullest and shared her harvest with friends and neighbors. Gert was a homemaker that will always be remembered for her pies, cakes, chocolate chip cookies and snicker doodles. More recently she found tranquility resurrecting a rose garden that had disappeared under the weeds in her side yard. To anyone who knew Gert they will remember her down to earth manor. Any conversation with her was frank but yet you could sense her warmth and friendship whenever you were with her. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her two sons, Gary Richardson of East Herkimer, Carl and his wife Judy Richardson of Frankfort, a sister Betty and her husband Eugene Armstrong of Toddsville, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Alvin, she was predeceased by two sons, Gordon Richardson in 1994 and Harold Richardson in 2000, three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Howard Combs. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Andersen, Pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church and her nephew the Reverend James Foster will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Herkimer Reformed Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
