Cedarville-Punta Gorda, FL Gertrude Shaw Forster, 87, died on Saturday October 6, 2001, in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown. She was born on August 21, 1914, in Passaic, NJ, the daughter of the late Lemuel and Matilda Ringelman Winchell. Raised and educated in New Jersey, she graduated from Montclair State University with a BA degree in Math Education. For over 35 years she taught math in the middle school systems in New Jersey and Connecticut, retiring in 1970. She resided in Connecticut until 1979, retiring to Florida in the winter months and spending summer months in Cedarville. Life has many changes, with a new beginning on the horizon in 1985 she married Wilfred "Bill" Forster in Punta Gorda. Theirs was a renewed friendship for they had known each other since she was fifteen years old. Together they traveled throughout the country and abroad. They shared a devoted union of love, compassion, and understanding. Gertrude had a giving personality. Her love and friendship was shown in countless ways planting seed of hope and encouragement to friends and family. She was a member of the Friendship Methodist Church Punta Gorda and the Peoples Undenominational Church of Cedarville, Montclair State University Alumni Phi Bata Kappa, and a volunteer with V.I.P. Surviving besides her beloved husband Bill are her sister-in-laws and their families, Blance Shaw of Suffield CT, Lorraine Blair of Punta Gorda, a niece, Janis Bain of Wayne, NJ, and a special friend, Julia Solisky of Cedarville. Funeral service was on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Peoples Undenominational Church of Cedarville, with Pastor David Schlaegel officiating.
