LITTLE FALLS - Gladys B. Bowman, 84, of Nulls Road, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 11, 2002, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
She was born May 19, 1917, in Salisbury, daughter of the late Bernard and Pearl McKinney Thompson. She was raised and educated in Salisbury until her family moved to Herkimer.
At one time she was married to Ebert Bowman. For several years she worked for Allegro Shoe Co. in Little Falls, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving her are three daughters, Geraldine Garlock and her companion Clarence Guyer of Herkimer, Pearl Guiles of Dolgeville and Beverly and her husband Ronald Reile of Ilion; one son, Ebert and his wife Barbara Bowman of Afton, Wis.; her companion Alvin Null of Little Falls; one sister, Arthella and her husband Merle Holtz of Ilion; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Thompson of Herkimer, Lena Bowman of Herkimer and Addie Brower of Ilion; one brother-in-law, Howard Bowman of Mohawk; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandsons; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Hudson; six brothers, Charles, Albert, Bernard, Glendon, Donald and John Thompson.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 10 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. George Greene, rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion, will officiate. Mrs. Bowman will be laid to rest in Salisbury Rural Cemetery later this spring.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
