Obituary

HERKIMER - Gladys Gardner, age 72, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully, on Thursday evening, October 22, 2015 in St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford. She was born on November 14, 1942, in Corry, PA, a daughter of Leon and Margaret Hartman Maine. The family moved to the New York where she was raised and educated, graduating from Mohawk Central School in 1962. On April 7, 1967 she was united in marriage with John Gardner. For many years she worked private duty as a home health aide. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of The Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. She enjoyed creating crafty items for family and friends and making favors for the mother/daughter luncheons at the church. Gladys will be remembered as a strong willed person with a kind heart and comforting hand. She enjoyed doing for others while seeking nothing in return. She was a true friend to many and will be sadly missed. Surviving besides her husband John are a son, Rex A. Gardner of Richfield Springs, a daughter Lee Ann Bennett and her husband Thomas of Lake Luzerne, a step-son Jack Gardner, step-daughter, Laurie Wells and her husband Jimmy all of Richfield Springs, two sisters Elleanor Kendall of Whitesboro, Martha Bunce and her husband Thomas of Frankfort, two grandchildren, Joshua and Alisha Bennett, and her fianc, Jerome Clark, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Louis, Alpha "Pete", Raymond, Karl, Lyle, Rexford, and Richard Maine, three sisters, Dorothy Sherman, Alberta Youker, and Marion Smith. Calling hours for Mrs. Gardner will be on Saturday, November 7th from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Calling Hours J.
