Obituary

HERKIMER-Gladys D. Manion age 85, of 104 North Washington Street passed away peacefully on Thursday morning October 22, 2009 in Folts Homes. She was born on September 6, 1924 in Cleveland, OH daughter of the late Albert and Daisy Montgomery Lawrence. Gladys was raised in Cleveland and had attended Cleveland City Schools. She was first married to Kenneth R. Dart who was killed in action during World War II. During the war she worked for the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland. On March 18, 1944, she was united in marriage with John H. Manion in Junction City, Kansas. Following the war they resided in Brunswick, GA. They had moved to this area, living in Richfield Springs and Herkimer since 1955. In 2002 they moved to McConnellsville to be near their daughter Janet Kessler and in 2006 came back to Herkimer residing at Folts Homes Mrs. Manion was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer and while living in McConnellsville was a member of Saint Johns Church in Camden. She was also a life member of Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915, Herkimer. Surviving besides her loving husband John, of sixty-five years, are two sons, Daniel G. Manion and his wife Hilary of Weaversville, NC, John T. Manion of Atlanta, GA, a daughter, Janet R. Kessler and her husband Gordon of McConnellsville, a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Manion of Honolulu, Hawaii, eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. Besides her parents Mrs. Manion was preceded in death by a daughter Margaret M. Robinson in 1995, two sons, infant Phillip Robert Dart in 1941 and Terrance J. Manion in 2007, three brothers, Albert, Roy and Fred Lawrence, three sisters, Vera Brooks, Thelma Kalbfliech, and Ruth Gynn. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Monday at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer with the Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Folts Homes, 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
