Obituary

ROME - Gladys I. Will, age 98, formerly of Herkimer, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2004, in Bethany House, Rome. She was born on September 16, 1905, in Shells Bush, the daughter of the late Willis J. and Nettie E. (Getman) Petrie. A lifelong area resident she graduated from Herkimer High School then continued her education at Clinton Training class of teachers. She taught in one-room schoolhouses in Little Falls. On October 24, 1932, she married Philip E. Will. They shared a loving and devoted union of over 66 years until his passing on January 10, 1999. Gladys dedicated her live to her family and church. She was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church and the Ladies Aide Society. An avid collector of antiques, she also enjoyed working in her garden and gloried in the presence of children. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Diane and Dennis Fountain of Taberg, three grandchildren, Bonnie Ryder and her husband William, Susan Rosenblatt, Philip Baruth and his wife Annika, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Philip, she was preceded in death by a grandson Joseph L. Baruth, Jr. on June 6, 2002. The last of her generation, four brothers, Clyde, John, Russell, and Lawrence Petrie predeceased her. The family will be present in the Fenner Funeral Home, Inc, 115 Court Street to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4 7 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. The Reverend James Foster, interim pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Herkimer Reformed Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
