MOHAWK-Glenn Edwin Merrick age 77 of Walnut Street passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning April 7, 2013 in his home.
He was born on January 19, 1936 in Remsen, son of the late Glenn E. and Gertrude WeaverMerrick. A lifelong area resident he was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School with the class of 1954. In 1957 he enlisted with the US Navy and was honorably discharged in1962. He then entered Potsdam University where he graduated in 1965. Mr. Merrick had worked for Nationwide Insurance Company in Utica for fifteen years, he had also worked for Kelsey-Hayes, RemingtonArms and APAC. For thirteen years Glenn served with the Army Reserve in Utica, and a thirteen year member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post #25.
To those who knew him he was a likeable gentleman with a strong intellect. He found much satisfaction instructing the Medics with the Army Reserve before his retirement. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his wifeWilmer A. Merrick of Utica and his brother Calvin E. Merrick of Mohawk.
A funeral service with military honors accorded by the US Navy will be held on Saturday at 4:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Interment in the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, on Monday at 1:00 p.m.
