HERKIMER - Glenn G. "Sonny" Seifried, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 7, 2014 in Valley Health Services with his loving family and friend by his side. He was born on November 12, 1933 in Trenton, son of the late Glenn G. Sr. and Dorothy Williams Seifried. A lifelong area resident, he was raised in Trenton, NY and was a graduate of Poland High School class of 1951 and attended MVCC. He enlisted in the US Navy on January 14, 1952, first stationed in Newport, RI and then served as a radio man on the USS Yosemite at the Naval Facility in London, England during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on December 13, 1955 having attained the rank of E4. On February 8, 1969 he married the love of his life, the former Joan M. Harter in Herkimer. They shared a deep love and devotion to each other and stood side by side through all of life's adventures. Glenn was an adventurous man and he loved challenges. After being discharged from the navy he worked for UNIVAC in Ilion. He later went on to be instrumental in the start of Mohawk Data Sciences where he worked as a manufacturing supervisor. During this time he purchased a farm in Little Falls where he built a home and started a family. Glenn raised black Angus and milked Holstein cows. In 1976 he and his wife Joan purchased the Wonder Bar in Herkimer and ran that business side-by-side until 1980. In 1982 he started Central Pump & Tank, Inc. in Herkimer. He successfully operated that business until 2002 when he permanently retired. Glenn was President of the local AYSO and helped construct a new soccer field behind Galinsky Apartments in Herkimer. Glenn was a member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge # 1439 B.P.O.E. In his early years he enjoyed fishing for the big ones and hunting with his dog Blue. He also loved to travel with his wife and family, especially to the Caribbean. To all who knew him he was a down to earth man with an unforgettable smile, quick wit and bright blue eyes. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will truly be missed by his family and many friends. His lasting legacy is the love for his family, his devoted wife of forty-five years Joan, two sons, Timothy and Kim Seifried of Frankfort, Wayne Seifried of Herkimer, a sister, Carol Ann Berube of NC, two special grandchildren who were the love of their grandfather's life, Nickolas S. Seifried and Jordyn A. Seifried, several very special nieces, nephews and a special cousin Danny Seifried. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Everett "Skip" Seifried and a sister, Flora "Popsy" Atwater. The family will be present at St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger Street, Herkimer, to receive family and friends from 10:00am until the start of the Memorial Service at 11:00am on Thursday August 14th.
