Obituary

MOHAWK-Glenn A. Sperl age 90 of State Highway # 168 passed away on Thursday morning April 30, 2009 in MaryImogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown. He was born on June 25, 1918 in Mohawk, son of the late Glenn A. and Marie Miller Sperl. A lifelong Mohawk resident he was educated in Mohawk Schools. In November of 1949 he married the former Ethel Weakley in Dolgeville. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifteen years until her passing on October 18, 1965. Glenn first worked for Sperry Rand and then the Remington Arms Company before embarking on his own businesses. He had owned and operated a grocery store on Route 168 in Mohawk, and was a self employed Heavy Equipment Operator. He had also drove school bus for Owen D. Young Central School and a Truck Driver for Richard Obreza Trucking in Mohawk. He retired in 1973. At one time Mr. Sperl had served as the Town Highway Supervisor for the Town ofGerman Flatts. He had a strong belief in God and was of the Methodist faith. To all who knew him they will remember a caring and helpful person who enjoyed doing for others. A friend to many he will greatly missed. Surviving are two daughters, Donna Krinsky and her husband Gerald of SanDiego, CA, Beverly Vickers of Salisbury, two sisters, Evelyn Weakley and Thelma Hamilton, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Beside his parents and wife Ethel, he was preceded in death by a brother Elmer Sperl and two sisters, Betty Knowles and Gertrude Fagan. At Mr. Sperls' request, Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
