MOHAWK Gordon Richard Roberts age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018 in Faxton- St Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. He had the comfort of knowing his family was at his side. A son of the late Worth and Reba (Rowell) Roberts, he was born on December 2, 1942 in Herkimer. A lifelong area resident he attended Little Falls schools. On September 15, 1962, he married Joyce Reynolds in the Mohawk Methodist Church. For over thirty years he was employed with Remington Arms in Ilion retiring in 1999. Gordon loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting or just enjoying sitting on the deck he built watching the birds was his relaxation. A hobby he was most proud of was his carpentry skills. Gordon will be remembered as a loving and caring man with a tremendous sense of humor. To his family he was a great protector and perfect father and husband. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife Joyce, of fifty-five years, two cherished daughter s Connie and Lance Dygert, Robin and Mark Church all of Mohawk, grandchildren Natasha Burleigh and Justin of Schuyler, Brett Church and fianc Sara Schuyler, Nicole Church all of Mohawk, great-grandchildren, Megan Church and Hailey Hazeltine and his canine Best Buddy Buttons. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Irv and Louis Engelbrecht. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 7:00p.m. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Intensive Care Unit of Faxton--St. Lukes Medical Center for the excellent care during Gordons illness.
