Gordon H. Smith of Jordanville, New York, passed away February 26, 2000 at ManateeMemorial Hospital, Bradenton, Florida with his loving wife and family at hisside.
Hewas the son of Elmer and Pearl C. Smith. Gordon graduated from Mohawk CentralHigh School in Mohawk, New York. Healso graduated from the Empire State School of Printing in Ithaca, New York.Gordon was a linotype operator, retiring from the Utica Observer Dispatch. Overhis career, he was also employed by the Little Falls Evening Times, the LittleFalls Journal and Courier, the St. Johnsville Enterprise and the Hudson DailyStar.
Gordonwas united in marriage on November 11, 1950 to Claire Doyle at St. MarysChurch in Little Falls, New York with the Reverend Edward Heenan officiating.
Gordonwas a communicant of Saint Josephs Roman Catholic Church in RichfieldSprings, New York where he served as lector.
Gordonwas a lifetime member of Little Falls Lodge #42 of the Benevolent and ProtectiveOrder of Elks where he was a Past Exalted Ruler.
Ahardworking and loving husband and father Gordon was a life-long New YorkYankees fan. He is survived by his loving wife Claire and
hischildren, Christine Corrigan and her husband Eugene, Peter and his wife Susanne,Gordon Jay and his wife Kathy, John and his wife Rebecca, Martin and his wifeJoan, Moira Yardley and her husband Lance and Mary Ellen Shibley and her husbandLindsay. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Elizabeth Schoenlein andher husband Dr. Eric Shoenlein, Hilary, Ryan and Patrick Corrigan, Michael,Rebecca, August, Sarah, Sean and Kelsey Smith, Nicholas and Jillian Yardley, andLindsey Shibley. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frederick Doyle,sisters-in-law Mary Doyle, Ciline Tomaso and her husband Charles, and DoloresDoyle. He is also survived by Sister Mary Benigna Geraghty and by many nieces,nephews and cousins.
Heis predeceased by his parents, his sisters Dorothy Smith, Reba Tallman, HildaCrimmins and her husband Bernard, his brother-in-law John Doyle, his nephew AlanCecconi, and many nieces nephews and cousins.
AMass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 4, 2000 beginning atnoon from Saint Josephs Roman Catholic Church in Richfield Springs, New York.Calling hours will be held Friday, March 3, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. atJ. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home in Richfield Springs, New York. Spring burialwill be in Highland Rural Cemetery in Jordanville, New York.
