OLD FORGE - Gordon L. Wood, 72, of Dakota Road, Old Forge, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in Heritage Home, Utica.
He as born May 29, 1934, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Louis and Hilda Bailey Wood. Gordon was raised in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
On Sept. 25, 1953, he was united in marriage with the former Veronica Nickerson. They had resided in Richfield Springs until 1996, when they moved to Old Forge. He was employed as a production foreman for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion until 1992, when he retired after 33 years of dedicated service.
Gordon was a member of Saint Johns Episcopal Church in Richfield Springs.
He was a 25-year member of the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and had served as fire chief for eight years.
He was happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and family, especially his four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Veronica, three daughters, Patti S. and her husband Donald F. DeKay, of Baldwinsville, Terri A. Wood, of Syracuse, Jodi L. and her husband Frederick A. Ross, of Springfield; one sister, Doris and her husband Arthur Stub Miller, of Richfield Springs; four grandchildren, Kristyn A. Matthew D., Amanda N. and Hannah A.; three nieces, four nephews and several cousins.
Funeral service from the Book of Common Prayer with Holy Eucharist will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Saint Johns Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs. There are no calling hours.
As an alternative to floral offerings, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or the Parkinsons Disease Association. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
