ILION - Grace E. Ingraham, age 89, of Rockwell Drive, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 28, 2009 in her home. She was born on March 22, 1920 in Herkimer a daughter of the late David and Rozella Knout Bowman. A lifelong area resident she attended schools in Herkimer. In May of 1937 she married Walter J. Ingraham in Pittsfield MA. They shared a loving and devoted union of 32 years until his passing on January 24, 1969. For over twenty years she had worked as a cook at the Mohawk Homestead, retiring in 1997. Her name Grace spoke for itself. She was kind and gentle, a quiet woman who always put others before herself. She adored her family and cherished the time spent with them, especially Christmas with the young children. Grace also loved the outdoors, be it sitting by a campfire or relaxing on the porch, there she admired the beauty of nature and its tranquility. She enjoyed bingo and the challenge of the television game shows. She will always be remembered for her gentle smile and her graciousness. Surviving are two sons and their wives, Vaughn Michael and Betty Ann Ingraham of Mexico, Gary Alvin and Roberta of Ilion, three daughters, Alice White and her husband Donald, Joyce Sanderson, Jeanette Young and her husband Jack all of Ilion, a brother Richard Bowman and his wife Betty of Ilion, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband Walter she was preceded in death by four sons, Calvin in 1942, Walter in 1987 and Richard in 1992, and Ingram Ingy in 2008, two daughters, Linda Schrader in 2001 and Jean White in 2002, and her son-in-law John Sanderson who died this past December 21st, son-in-law Wayne Butch Schrader in 2007, two brothers Harold and Alfred Bowman, and three sisters, Ruby Harrier, Edna Jackson and Sarah Lawrence. A graveside service in Oak Hill Cemeterywill take place next spring at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours.
