Obituary

East Herkimer- Grace McGuire, age 86 formerly of Arthur Street, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, May 27, 2011 at St. Josephs Hospital, Syracuse. She had the comfort of knowing her family was at her side.She was born on December 13, 1924, in Little Falls Hospital, a daughter of the late Vensel J. and Helen Bellinger Grubner. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On September 7, 1946 she was united in marriage to Daniel B. McGuire in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. They shared a devoted union of forty-one years until his passing on January 3, 1988. For many years she was employed with Standard Furniture. She retired in 1986 from the Herkimer County Sheriff Department where she worked as a clerk. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. Her heart was always focused on her family and she was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Grace had a special gift of presence. From the first moment you met her you had the feeling you were always friends. She will be remembered for her loving smile and caring way and will be truly missed. Surviving are her son and his wife Paul and Kathleen McGuire of North Syracuse, one brother Paul Grubner and his wife Marion of East Herkimer, a daughter-in-law Nancy McGuire of Herkimer, a sister Barbara Sanders of Steens ,MS, five grandchildren, Courtney McGuire of Trumansburg, Carin Harrer of Herkimer, John McGuire and his wife Nicole of Central Square, Jason McGuire, Brittnee McGuire both of Herkimer, two great-grandchildren, Bryan McGuire and Bailey Harrer of Herkimer, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Daniel, she was preceded in death by a son, John Bryan Corky McGuire in 1975, and three brothers, Warren, John and Vincent.Funeral service will be on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Very Reverend Paul C. Bailey, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday ( two hours prior to the service) from 5:00 until 7:00p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
