RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Grace May Skinner, 93, of McKoons Road, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2003, in FoltsHomes, Herkimer.
She was born April 27, 1909, in Laurens, daughter of the late Fred E. and Grace Tarbox Smith. A lifelong area resident, Grace was educated in East Herkimer and Herkimer High School. On April 8, 1929, she married Clayton E. Skinner in North Columbia, a devoted union of 33 years until his passing in 1962.
At one time, Grace worked as a nurse's aide in the Bella Vista Nursing Home, Richfield Springs. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. She was a member of the church Rosary Altar Society. Mrs. Skinner was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Clayton F. and his wife Joan Skinner of Columbia; four daughters, Patricia Miller and her husband James of Carmichael, Calif., Edith Reile and her husband John of Oriskany Falls, Marian Martin and her husband Robert of Little Falls and Kathleen Aney of Richfield Springs; one sister, Anna Smith of West Winfield; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Clayton, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Smith and two sisters, Dorothy Gates and Ruth Treen.
Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Terrance Healey will officiate. Mrs. Skinner will be laid to rest in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery, town of Columbia later this spring.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs or the Dutch Reformed Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
