LITTLE FALLS – Greta L. Herringshaw age 92, formerly of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2021. Greta was born on August 19, 1928, the daughter of the late Chester LeRoy and Augusta (Prestenbach) Ritcher. She attended Herkimer Schools graduating in 1946. On November 5, 1947, she married Frank S. Pavlot. Greta's second marriage to Vern (Ike) Herringshaw took place on November 17, 1957. Greta was a cashier for F.W. Woolworth, Grossman's Lumber Company and Aiello's Grocery Store. She enjoyed her working career and serving the public. She retired in 1997 as a custodian for Herkimer Elementary School. Greta enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, attending benefits, musical events and camping at Kayuta Lake. She loved the trips she made to Germany with her mother visiting her German relatives. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting hats and socks, affectionately known as "Greta Wear" for her family and friends. Greta will be remembered for her charitable acts of kindness and her willingness to help anyone in need. Besides making monetary donations to national and local charities, she sewed dresses for children in Haiti, knitted hats for children in Afghanistan, crocheted blankets for children born with AIDS and knitted hats for newborn babies for area hospitals. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched, especially her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her loving children, Nancy (Herringshaw) Janusauskas, daughter-in-law Maura Pavlot, Greta (Pavlot) Rathbun, Mark Pavlot, Wendy Herringshaw and her husband James Gorinshek, Lori (Herringshaw) Miller and her friend Stephen Miller, Todd Herringshaw and his partner Karen McGrail, grandchildren, Regina Biando and her partner Chris Palumbo, Michael Biando, Ryan (Tina) Pavlot, Kenneth (Lisa) Fedora, Jody (Chris) Rose, Greta Webb, Rod (Cathy) Rathbun, John (Angie) Rathbun, Danielle, Jessica and Jordan Pavlot, Shiloh Herringshaw and her partner Nathaniel Blank, Erin Paul and her partner Bo Li, Zachary Herringshaw and his partner Kristen Schmaling, Connor Dykeman, Tyler Herringshaw, many great-grandchildren, Circe her dog and her many grand "fur" babies. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her a daughter Joy Biando, a son Frank Pavlot, grandsons, Peter Biando and Cory Pavlot, great-grandson Joshua Biando, sons – law, Albert Janusauskas, David Miller and Roger Phillips. It was Greta's request that service and interment be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Little Falls-Bassett Hospital for the care and comfort given to their mother during her stay.
