MOHAWK-Gwendolyn E. Miller age 96 formerly of North Street, passed away on Friday morning July 16, 2010 in Ellis Hospital,Schenectady.
She was born on March 13, 1914 in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late Frank L. and Daisy M. Bonnette Alling. A lifelong area resident she was educated in various public schools.
On September 29, 1939 she was united in marriage with Milford E. Miller in Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-three years until his passing on December 11, 1992.
For ten years Mrs. Miller had worked as a seamstress for the Duofold Company in Mohawk. In 2007 she moved from Mohawk to Schenectady to live nearer to her daughter, Jeanne.
Gwendolyn had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church. She was also a fifty year member of the Mohawk Chapter Order of the Eastern Star (Evening Star Valley # 82 Order of the Eastern Star), The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Colonel Marinus Willett of the Mohawk Valley Chapter NSDAR and the Mohawk Valley Chapter of The Society of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. In her leisure time she enjoyed doing crafts, reading books and baking.
Mrs. Miller will always be remembered as a warm, sincere and caring person with an unforgettable smile. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her friends and family especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are one daughter, Jeanne McCartney and her husband Thomas of Schenectady, four grandchildren Scott McCartney and his wife Mary of Peru, NY, Keith McCartney of Schenectady, Brian McCartney of Latham, Suzanne Wendolski and her husband Nicholas of Johnstown, six great grandchildren, Thomas McCartney, Madison McCartney, Scott McCartney Jr., Raylon Snovelle, Nicole and, Logan Wendolski
Besides her parents and husband Milford she was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Alling.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 100 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, Pastor of Morning Star Ministries will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park, town of Kirkland.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday two hours prior to the funeral service (11:00 am to 1:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Dutch Manion Nursing Home, 1940 Hamburg Street; Schenectady, NY 12304. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of the Colonel Marinus Willett of the Mohawk Valley Chapter NSDAR are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:00 am for their service, Members of the Mohawk Valley Chapter Society of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:30 am for their service. Members of Evening Star Valley Chapter # 82 OES are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 pm for ritualistic services.
