Obituary

HERKIMER-H. Shannon Chrisman age 82, beloved mother, sister, grandmother great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 18, 2014 in her home. She was born on October 21, 1932 in Leominister, MA, daughter of the late Charles W. and Helen H. Benson Weschrob. Her family came to Herkimer from Bridgeport, CT in 1948. on Smalls Bush. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School. On August 29, 1953 she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Martin I. Chrisman in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. They made their home on Smalls Bush Road in East Herkimer for over 50 years where they raised three daughters and their many pets. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-nine years until his passing on August 30, 2012. Mrs. Chrisman had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. She was community minded and volunteered at the East Herkimer P.T.A., the Herkimer Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and Snack Bar and managed the Thompson Gift Shop at Fay's Mall in Ilion. To all who knew her she had a keen thirst for knowledge and was constantly eager to learn something new. Besides being a dedicated homemaker, she was a gifted cook and seamstress, tackling every new project (and there were many) with much enthusiasm. Her daughters can tell you how mom could whip up spring coats in the week before Easter for dad to pin orchid corsages on. Shannon will always be remembered as a strong, positive and caring lady who was willing to do for others while looking for nothing in return. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally. Surviving her are three daughters and their husbands, Sharron Ann and Ted Brebeck of Mohawk Melinda Sue and Michael Kieff of Cape Vincent, Rebecca Lynn and James Watkins of Ilion, one sister, Carolyn Katz and her husband Morton of Columbus, OH, a sister-in-law, Barbara and her husband John Peter Gorham of Cold Brook, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one niece, three nephews and several cousins. Besides her parents and husband Martin she was preceded in death by a sister Ann Weschrob.
