Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Hany Mikhail Ghaleb, D.D.S. age 52, passed away suddenly from natural causes, on Thursday evening March 1, 2018, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, with the comfort of his loving wife, Jhilmil (Jill) Ghaleb, at his side. He was born on January 29, 1966 in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt, son of Samira Shafik Ghaleb and the late Dr. Mikhail F. Ghaleb. Hany came to the U.S.A. at eight years old and graduated from New York Mills High School. He furthered his education receiving a Bachelors Degree of Chemistry from Utica College where he met his soul mate Jhilmil. They have been inseparable ever since. He then went on to graduate from New York University Dental School. He completed his residency at Saint Lukes Medical Center in New Hartford. On July 29, 1989 he was united in marriage to Jhilmil (Jill) Dey in Saint Georges Orthodox Church in Utica. In 1992, he established a successful dental practice in Richfield Springs, where he settled with his wife and loyal dog Domino. They later settled in Cooperstown in 1998, and over the years added their dog Daisy, and cats Hallie, Sunshine, Twinkie, Solo, and Velveteena. Hany was a man with a true sense of community, serving as a 25 year member and President of the Richfield Springs Rotary Club. He was appointed to the Attorney Grievance Committee of the Appellate Division (Third Judicial Department). He also served as an attending dentist at Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford where he taught dental residents for the past 25 years. Hany was a truly special man, an old soul with a heart as pure as a child. He loved spending time with family and friends, and saw the best in everyone. He made a difference wherever he went, helping any person or animal in need. He enjoyed seeing people succeed and was generous with his time and knowledge. He achieved success but remained humble and kind. He had a gift for bringing people together and lived every day with joy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years Jhilmil (Jill) Ghaleb, his mother, Samira Foster and her husband Robert of Utica, his mother-in-law Gouri Dey and his father-in-law Bishu Dey of West Winfield, and his brother-in-law Spondon Dey of Long Branch, N.J., along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was a deeply loving husband, son, son-in-law, and brother-in-law.
