RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Harold M.Armstrong, age 75, of Lakeview Avenue, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 20, 2001in his home.
He was born on February 21, 1926, in the town of Warren, son of thelate Harrie L. and Belva A. Waffle Armstrong. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, hewas educated in Richfield Springs School. An honorably discharged US Navy veteran, heserved in the Pacific during World War II. After his military service he returned toRichfield Springs working as a self employed wallpaper hanger and painter. He retired in1996. At one time he was married to Maxine A. Congdon.
He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, a52 year member of Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free and Accepted Masons and a formermember of the Richfield Springs VFW Post #6659. Harold will always be remembered as ahappy, caring person and will be missed by many especially his family.
Surviving him are two sons and their wives, Harold M. Jr. and NancyArmstrong of Albany, Kenneth W. and Gloria Armstrong of Wilmington North Carolina; fivedaughters and their husbands, Bonnie L. and Mitchell Starr of Basalt, CO, Sandra K. andThomas Maxson of Richfield Springs, Joan M. and Gregory Ames of Sauquoit, Patricia L. andD. Scott Ray of Arlington, TX, Brenda L. and Patrick Elmer of Stoudsburg, PA; fifteengrandchildren, Carin L and Steven T. Maxson, Chad W. Houghtaling, Zachary, Nathan, Caleband Isaac Ames, Taylor Elliott, Ryan DiCarlo, Leland E., Alexandra and Griffen Armstrong,Stephanie Ray, Brendan and Kyle Elmer; several nieces and nephews including NeilArmstrong, Donald Armstrong and Gail Secord and several cousins.
Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a brother LelandE. Armstrong.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in J. SeatonMcGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs with the ReverendWilliam Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, officiating.Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives andfriends on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Member of Richfield Springs Lodge #482 Free and Accepted Masons areasked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday for ritualistic service at 8:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Envelopes will beavailable at the funeral home.
