UTICA - Harold L. Collins, Jr. age 84, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 9, 2004 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1920 in Little Falls, the son of the late Harold Sr. and Hattie Hoffman Collins. He was raised with love and a strong commitment to honesty, work ethic and family. These values he instilled in his own children. Harold graduated in 1938 from Van Hornesville Central School. On July 31, 1943, Harold was united in marriage to Florence Fetterly in Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield Center. Together they shared sixty-one years of true devotion to each other. They taught their children, by example, how to be a family, sharing special love and respect for each other. For many years the couple owned and operated the Van Hornesville Bowling Center and Four Seasons Restaurant. During that time he was also known for his mastery of carpentry and woodworking. In 1985 he retired from Owen D. Young Central School as head custodian. In addition to his wife Florence, Harold is survived by four children, Harold, III and his wife Brenda of Canastota, Eileen Collins-Tennant and her husband Darwin Zeke of Utica, Brian and his wife Beverly of Verona, Dianne Collins Ellard and her husband Albert of MA. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren, four brothers, Chester, Leland Robert and James Collins, six sisters, Kathleen Suits, Marion Fleckenstein, Veronica, Ingles, Dorothea, Chace, Ella-Louise Light, and Cecilia Davey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. Reverend Terence Healy, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., whose aid and support helped his family through a very difficult time. Envelopes will be available at the church or funeral home. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
