Obituary

HERKIMER - Harold John Fulmer, age 81, of North Creek Road, town of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon June 9, 2011 in the comfort of his home. He had his loving family at his side. He was born on May 3, 1930, in Herkimer, a son of the late Frank S. and Margaret McPherson Fulmer. A lifelong area resident he was raised on the family farm and was a graduate of West Canada Valley High School. On September 22, 1951 he was united in marriage with the former Beverly DeForest in the Herkimer Reformed Church. They shared a devoted union of thirty-three years until her passing on May 5, 1985. For more than thirty-five years he owned and operated the Fulmer Dairy Farm until his retirement in the early 1980s. After his retirement from farming he went to work for the Hale Manufacturing Company in Herkimer and permanently retired in 1992. On September 19, 1987 he married the former Donna Kenyon in Mohawk. Mr. Fulmer was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, and helping his neighbors on their farms. He was also known locally as an accomplished country and western music singer, singing with his close friend Bob McPherson and the Country Squires. Harold will always be remembered as a man with a strong sense of community. He volunteered his talents with the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity, working every Wednesday and Saturday and sometimes more for this most charitable organization. To all who knew him, he was a caring and hopeful gentleman who found great joy in doing for others and looking for nothing in return. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife of twenty-three years Donna, two sons and their wives Keith and Terry Fulmer of Rye, Mark and Nancy Fulmer of Little Falls, one daughter, Monica Margaret Maggie Fulmer of Little Falls, five grandchildren, Nina, Holly, Sam, Lindsey and Brent Fulmer, several generations of nieces and nephews, many cousins, numerous brother and sister-in-laws, along with special friends and neighbors. Besides his parents and first wife Beverly he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester F. Fulmer and Earl H. Fulmer. Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in the Herkimer Reformed Church with the Reverend Mark Andersen, Pastor officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In honoring Harolds wishes there are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity. Envelopes will be available at the church service. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
