Harold L. Knapp age 92 of Herkimer, formerly of Schuyler passed away peacefully on Saturday morning October 22, 2022with his family by his side.
Harold was born on July 26, 1930 in Schuyler, son of Leroy S. and Ada M. Ladd. Harold grew up on the family dairy farm and continued his career in dairy farming after graduation from Morrisville College. He was united in marriage to Shirley Rook on September 26, 1953. Harold was a Mason and served as the Grand Master for several years. He loved farming, playing pitch and most of all spending time with friends and family. He loved his cars and keeping them shined up for the Sunday drives to visit family. Harold's Manhattan clam chowder was enjoyed by many! He was happiest on holidays and family gatherings when he would be surrounded by all those that loved him. Harold was the life of the party! He will be sadly missed.
Surviving are his devoted children Erick Knapp and his wife Deborah of Forestport, David Knapp of Big Fork, MT, John Knapp and his wife Lori Gabriel of Frankfort, one daughter Elizabeth Lepper and her husband David of Liverpool, one brother Guy "Tom" Knapp of Ilion. Harold also had six grandchildren; Cheryl, Michael, Greg, Alyssa, Claire and Dale, and four great grandchildren, Trinity, Ella, Carter, Josie Jean and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents Harold was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, their daughter Judith Ann Knapp, sister Shirley Barrett and sister Sally Fagle.
A memorial service for Mr. Knapp will be held on Tuesday November 1st 2022 at 11am at the Mohawk Reformed Church. The Reverend Brian Engel, Pastor will officiate. A Celebration of Life clambake will be held in the spring of 2023.
Harold spent the last six month in Rome under the care of his grandson Michael and his partner Ryan. He enjoyed watching the deer and birds and most of all visiting camp at North Lakeand having a tasty Manhattan or Old Fashioned and playing cards with the boys at V.F.W in Herkimer. A special thank you to all the nurses from Hospice especially Nurse Joe and Nurse Debbie.
