Obituary

MOHAWK - Harold R. Parks, age 79, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday morning, June 24, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 28, 1935 in Herkimer, NY, a son of the late Herbert F. and Helen Collyer Parks. A lifelong area resident, he attended school in Herkimer. On July 8, 1978 he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Newman in the Herkimer Reformed Church. For many years he worked in the logging and lumber business. He later started his own business in Mohawk called Harold's Used Cars. Harold enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing and hunting with family friends in a private Adirondack fish and game club was always a joyous event. He was blessed with a great sense of humor and wit. He could lighten any of life's mishaps with a touch of humor. To know Harold was to love him. One of his greatest pleasures in life was to help others, and he had a great compassion for all animals, especially dogs. He was a true friend and confidant, and will be greatly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of thirty-six years, Millie, a son Harold H. Dunn and his wife Karen, of Yuma, AZ, a daughter, Cheryl Amaro and her husband Robert, of Ellicott City, MD, a step-daughter Vicki Weinman and her husband Paul of Ballston Spa, NY, a brother Phillip Parks of Herkimer, two sisters, Hilda Paddock of Ilion, and Phyllis Buckner of Belleview, FL, four grandchildren, Jessica Mucilli, Cristina Brickhouse, Robert and Matthew Dunn, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Parks, and a sister, Linda Parks Philip. The family will be present to receive guests at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Sunday, June 29, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 4:00. The Reverend Janet Gleason, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls will officiate. Interment will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Heart Association or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
