ILION-Harrison J. Snyder age 78 of Fitzer Drive formerly of North Washington Street, Herkimer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning March 30, 2002 in Little Falls Hospital.
He was born on March 8, 1924 in East Frankfort, son of the late John H. and Grace Hart Snyder. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Mohawk. Harrison proudly answered the call of his country in World War II serving with the US Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On June 30, 1956 he married Dianne Perkett in the Ilion Presbyterian Church. For many years he was an Antique Picker dealing in wholesale antiques.
Harrison had a strong belief in God and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter # 82.
He was happiest when he was with his friends and family especially his grandson Scott.
Surviving are his loving wife of forty-five years Dianne, one son; Scott Snyder of New York Mills, a daughter; Stacey Whaley of Ilion, one grandson; Scott Whaley of Ilion, a sister-in-law; Nancy Snyder of Globe, AZ, several nieces, nephews including special nephews George Snyder of Little Falls, John Snyder of Germany, along with several cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his two brothers George Snyder in 1994 and Eugene in 1988.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Patricia Lawrence will officiate. Interment will take place on Thursday at 10:00 AM in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
