HERKIMER - Harry D. Smith, 70, of E. German St., passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica.
He was born June 8, 1930, in Herkimer, son of the late Arthur H. and Grace Gordon Smith. A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School, "Class of 1950." An honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, he served our country during the Korean War. For 20 years he was employed as a shipping clerk for the Allegro Shoe Co. in Little Falls. In 1985 he went to work for LaSalle Labs in Little Falls, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church, where he sang in the church choir. Harry was a Past Commander of Adirondack Post of the American Legion in Cold Brook; he belonged to the Ilion Moose Lodge 31, the Forty and Eight and the AARP. Surviving him are two brothers, Bruce Smith of Herkimer and James and his wife Connie Smith of East Herkimer; a sister, Sheila Servadio of Herkimer; three nieces and three nephews. Besides his parents, a brother, Wayne Smith in 1977 and a brother-in-law, Angelo Servadio in 1981 preceded him in death. Funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Donald Battjes, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends today (Saturday) from 4-7 p.m. As an alternative to flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Herkimer Reformed Church Memorial Fund or MOVAC.
