Obituary

HERKIMER - Hazel C. Patrick, 98, of 690W. German St., formerly of East Herkimer, died on Friday evening, Sept. 8, 2000,in Valley Health Services Inc.She was born Oct. 23, 1901 in East Herkimer,daughter of the late Bert H. and Mary E. Rasbach Crill. A lifelong Herkimerresident, she graduated from Herkimer High School with the "Class of1918." Upon completion of high school she want on to Albany State Collegeand graduated in 1922 with a degree in teaching. She taught school in Middletownand Herkimer. On July 14, 1926 she married Andrew Patrick in the HerkimerReformed Church. A blessed union of 43 years until his passing on Dec. 22, 1969.Mrs. Patrick was an active member of the Herkimer Reformed Church. She hadtaught Sunday school, was active in the Women's Guild. She had served on theBoard of World Missions and was one of the first women to serve as an Elder andDeacon as well as Vice President of the Church Board. She was also a member ofthe Esther Circle of the church. She was a member and officer of the GeneralHerkimer Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the EveningStar Valley Chapter 82 (formerly Myrtle Chapter) Order of the Eastern Star. Amember of the Herkimer County Historical Society since 1957, she had served as aboard member, secretary of the board and was a staff member of the society. Shedid much of the genealogical research for the society and authored severalgenealogical books on the Petrie, Rasbach, Harter, Bellinger Kast, Casler, Herkimer and many other families.Hazel was a happy Christian lady who was always ready to help others. She loved to garden early in the morning. Her enthusiasm for the quiet of Cape Cod fall vacations started in 1939. She loved cats and dogs. She was known for her famous pickles that she made for the church fair every year. In much of her spare time she sewed doll clothes to dress dolls for the missions, she also made stuffed animals for the missions and children that she knew locally.Surviving her are many cousins includingMarcia Balduc of Ballston Spa, her children Carol and Mark and her specialfriends Richard and Lois Hyde of East Herkimer.A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1p.m. in the Herkimer Reformed Church with the Rev. Donald Battjes, pastor,officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. There are nocalling hours.Memorial donations may be made to the HerkimerReformed Church, Herkimer County Historical Society or the Herkimer CountyHumane Society. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service. Funeralarrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
