HERKIMER-Helen H. Fahey 93 formerly of 113 Weber Avenue, died on Thursday, June 15, 2000 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on May 20, 1907 in Ilion, daughter of the late William and Mary Mangan Harris. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of both Herkimer High School, Cortland State Normal School and furthered her education at the University of Rochester. From 1929 to 1930 she taught in Rochester Public Schools. In 1930 she returned here and was a secretary for the Herkimer Chamber of Commerce. On August 2,1932 she married James Fahey in St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-two years until his passing in 1964. In 1950 she was Deputy Clerk for the village of Herkimer and in 1956 served as Interim Clerk for the village. From 1956 to 1959 she was Payroll Clerk for the Herkimer Municipal Commission. When Niagara-Mohawk Power Corporation took over she became District Clerk, a position she held until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer.
Surviving her are one son; Mark and his wife Ellen Fahey of Ilion, five grandchildren; Jan and her husband Stephen Redmond, Mark and his wife Elyse Fahey, Cynthia and her husband Peter Brown, Karen and her husband Joseph Kohler, Robert and his wife Kristen Fahey, thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband James, a son Matthew Fahey, and two brothers Edward and Robert Harris preceded her in death.
A graveside service in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer at a later time to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis deSales Parish Center Building Fund.
