HERKIMER-Helen Hladysz age 91 passed away on Saturday morning February 18, 2012 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown.
She was born on June 5, 1920 in Fort Plain, daughter of the late John and Ursula Norwich Balvocus. A lifelong area resident she raised and educated in Fort Plain. On May 15, 1948 she was united in marriage with William Hladysz in West Rupert, VT. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-seven years until his passing on July 30, 1985.
For fifteen years Mrs. Hladysz worked for the Snyder Bicycle Company in Little Falls. She retired in 1975. Helen was a member of the Cold Brook American Legion Post 1118 Ladies Auxiliary. To those who knew her she will always be remembered as loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In good times or bad she was always there for them. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her son William Hladysz of Saint Johnsville, a daughter Deborah Irving and her husband Dana of Poland, one sister Catherine Perillo of DE, six cherished grandchildren, Becky Holloway of Saint Johnsville, Christina Tharp and her husband Craig of Fort Knox, KY, Norma Clark and her husband David of Fort Collins, CO, Victor Conover of Aurora, CO, Alexandra Misko and her husband Chris of Denver, CO, Tricia Irving of Poland, Twelve great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband William she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Louis Balvocus, five sisters, Sophia Fitzpatrick, Veronica Walatis, Afemia Yanko, Frances Mazeika, Rosalie Shibley, a daughter-in-law, Vicki J. Hladysz and a grand son-in-law, Larry Holloway.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours.
