Obituary

HERKIMER - Helen E. Keller, age 90, of 104 North Washington Street, formerly of Doxtater Street, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, April 18, 2006 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born on January 28, 1916 in Sempronius, daughter of the late Wilson R. and El Feda Jones Webster. Helen was raised on a dairy farm in Homer and was a graduate of Homer Academy. She furthered her education by attending Nurses Training School at Cortland County Hospital and Bellevue Hospital in New York City receiving her Practical Nurses Training. She worked as an LPN in New York City, Santa Monica, CA and Rome, NY. She worked locally at Herkimer Hospital and in the office of Dr. Golden retiring in 1966. On May 15, 1943 she was united in marriage to Martin S. Keller. They shared a loving and devoted union of 61 years until his passing on May 19, 2004. Helen had a strong belief in God and was a member of First Baptist Church, Herkimer, where she served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Herkimer Garden Club and was diligent in many civic activities over the years. She is survived by her son, Harley W. Gamel of Herkimer, a granddaughter, Ann (Gamel) Adams and her husband Adam, a great granddaughter Brianna Adams all of Skaneateles, a grandson Sam Samuel J. (Gamel) Mancini of Denver, CO, a sister Leora Webster Dumlao of LaJolla, CA, a brother, Reverend William R. Webster of Ojus, FL and many nieces, nephews and many great friends. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Patricia Lawrence, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Poland. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First Baptist Church Herkimer Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
