Obituary

HERKIMER-Helen Virginia Lamphere age 80 of State Route # 28 passed away on Saturday evening February 3, 2007 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica after a long illness. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on January 4, 1927 in Winchester, TN, daughter of the late Dewey and Maude Graham Chumley. Helen was raised and educated in Estill Springs, TN. On July 4, 1943 she was united in marriage with Everett J. Lamphere in Atlanta, GA. When World War II ended in 1945, she and her husband moved to Herkimer, coming from Estill Springs. In 1968 they started their own restaurant business called Evs Drive-In on State Route # 28 in Herkimer. Known for its good meals, Mrs. Lamphere did all the cooking. They successfully operated the restaurant for fifteen years until her retirement in 1983. In her leisure time Helen enjoyed her home and was very proud of her garden. But to all who knew her they will always remember her love for cooking and baking and those warm aromas that filled her home and their hearts. She was an avid collector of cook books and had one of the most extensive collections that you will ever find as well as being a regular viewer of the Food Channel. But foremost she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her two grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband of sixty-three years Everett are a son Kevin L. Lamphere and his wife Sandra of Adams Center, a daughter, Linda Lamphere of Erin, cherished grandchildren Dustin Everett and Todd Andrew Lamphere both of Adams Center. It was Mrs. Lampheres wish that all funeral and interment services be private and at the convenience of the family.
