HERKIMER - Helen Higgins Miner age 89 of Willis Avenue passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon March 21, 2003 in Folts Homes Herkimer.
She was born on January 22, 1914 in Herkimer daughter of the late Marvil J. and Emmagene Combs Higgins. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School class of 1932. On October 4, 1956 she married Harvey Glynn Miner in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. A loving and devoted union of forty-three years until his passing on August 24, 2000. Mrs. Miner first worked for Donlons Glove Shop and then for thirty years at UNIVAC. She retired in 1966.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church Herkimer where she had sung in the church choir and was treasurer of the church Sunday school. She was also a member of the Fort Dayton Grange.
Helen and her husband gloried in the presence of children. Nearly everyday in the summertime the neighborhood children would gather at their home to play games, do crafts and just have fun. Young and old will always remember her as a loving, caring and hopeful person who will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her brother Marvil of NC, several nieces and nephews among them Sharon Rhodes and Daniel Higgins both of Herkimer. Besides her parents and husband Skinny two brothers, Joseph and Daniel Higgins preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am in the First Baptist Church Herkimer. The Reverend Patricia Lawrence, Pastor will officiate. Mrs. Miner will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring at a time to be announced. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
