Obituary

HERKIMER - Henry N. Keyser Sr., 70, of King Street, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, Dec. 16, 2003, in Little Falls Hospital. He was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Schuyler, son of the late Harry and Esther Geer Keyser. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of West Canada Valley High School. On July 2, 1955, he married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Glogowski in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. They have resided in Herkimer since that time. For more than 20 years, Hank was employed as a foreman for Mohawk Data Sciences and in 1987 he joined the Herkimer County Sheriff's Department. For 10 years he worked for the sheriff's department, attaining the rank of sergeant before he retired in 1997. At one time he was a member of the Newport Lodge Free and Accepted Masons and the Herkimer Elks Lodge 1439. Hank was a strong-willed man who enjoyed the outdoors and nature. He was a hunter and made his peace with God in the woods and grassy fields of this area. His down to earth manner flowed from his character, but people could sense warmth and friendship whenever they were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Keyser; two sons, Henry N. Keyser Jr. of Greenfield, Mass., Dale and his wife Debra Keyser of East Herkimer; two sisters and their husbands, Mary Jane and William Place, Lucille and Brian Bunce, all of Newport; three grandchildren, Jessica Keyser of Essex, Conn., Joshua and Brandon Keyser of East Herkimer; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, a sister, Joan Kane, preceded him in death. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Robert Lindsay will officiate. Mr. Keyser will be laid to rest in Middleville Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Herkimer County Deputy Sheriff's Association or Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
